One of the largest museum constructions in Denmark in recent times is gaining momentum. The new building for the Natural History Museum of Denmark will be located in a corner of the Botanical Gardens in the heart of Copenhagen.

A substantial part of the New Natural History Museum of Denmark is placed on two levels below ground level.

At the lower level the concrete base slab together with anchors secures the building from uplift, due the prevailing water pressure from the surrounding underground water. The lower concrete slab is a construction in three layers.

From the bottom a base slab, then a drainage layer and on top of this the final concrete floor. The anchors were to be prestressed once the concrete base plate had reached a minimum strength of 35 MPa. The above construction was placed directly on top of some of the anchors which was not optimal.  To reduce the amount waiting time the contractor Per Aarsleff A/S contacted Peikko to investigate the possibilities of saving time by using PSB® Punching Reinforcement.

By using PSB® Punching Reinforcement around the anchors they were able to prestress them at a much lower concrete strength and save a lot of time. The easy installation of PSB® Punching Reinforcement also optimized the amount of time used compared to using stirrups as punching reinforcement.
